Broadcaster Lee Geum-hee has returned to South Korea after completing an overseas filming assignment following her mother's death. According to the obituary confirmed on 2026-09-17, her mother, Kang Soon-sik, passed away at the age of 93. A funeral altar has been set up at the Cheonggu Sungsim Hospital Funeral Hall in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. The funeral procession is scheduled for September 19 at 7 a.m.
Why Lee Geum-hee Returned from Overseas
At the time of her mother's death, Lee Geum-hee was in Uzbekistan filming a special documentary for Hangeul Day. After receiving news of her mother's passing while abroad, she completed the scheduled filming and returned to South Korea, setting up the funeral altar on 17.

The publicly released obituary states that Lee Geum-hee's mother, Kang Soon-sik, passed away on September 14. She was 93 years old.

Through the obituary, Lee shared that her mother had passed away shortly before her ninety-third birthday and asked people to pray for her peaceful rest.
Funeral Location and Schedule
The funeral altar has been set up in Special Room 1 at the Cheonggu Sungsim Hospital Funeral Hall in Eunpyeong-gu, Seoul. Visitation began at 10 a.m. on September 17, the encoffining ceremony is scheduled for 18 at 10 a.m., and the funeral procession is scheduled for 19 at 7 a.m.
Heungchangsa Temple has been listed as the final resting place. Some reports also indicated that the funeral arrangements include a stop at Seoul Municipal Seunghwawon before proceeding to Heungchangsa Temple.

Lee Geum-hee currently hosts the KBS Cool FM radio program 'A Good Day to Love, This Is Lee Geum-hee.'
Reports indicate that she completed advance recordings for broadcasts scheduled during the funeral period. As a result, previously recorded episodes may still air while she remains at the funeral hall to mourn her mother.
Lee began her broadcasting career in 1989 as an announcer recruited through KBS's 16th open recruitment round. She later hosted programs including 'Morning Forum.' She has worked as a freelance broadcaster since 2000.
