When checked on the afternoon of 2026-08-23, Bitcoin was trading at USD 76,846.93 per 1BTC, 21.92% higher than 7 days earlier. The remaining gap to USD 80,000 was USD 3,153.07, or approximately 4.10% of the current price. However, narrowing the timeframe to the past 24 hours shows a decline of 2.01%, indicating that the pace of gains has not remained unchanged following the sharp weekly rally.

How Far Is Bitcoin Really from USD 80,000?
Based on the current price, USD 80,000 is not far away. To move from USD 76,846.93 to USD 80,000, Bitcoin would need to gain another USD 3,153.07, requiring an additional increase of approximately 4.10%, according to the author's calculation.

The calculation is straightforward.
Reference price: USD 76,846.93
Target price: USD 80,000
Remaining price difference: USD 3,153.07
Required increase: 3,153.07 ÷ 76,846.93 × 100 = approximately 4.10%
During the past day, Bitcoin also reached USD 78,803.66 at one point. At that price, only USD 1,196.34, or approximately 1.52%, remained before reaching USD 80,000. Conversely, the low during the same 24-hour period was USD 76,523.31. In other words, it is important to consider the full price movement, including how Bitcoin came close to USD 80,000 before retreating to the USD 76,000 range.
This distinction matters because 'almost reaching USD 80,000' and 'maintaining a price above USD 80,000' are entirely different situations. The fact that the price briefly approached that level does not mean a breakout above USD 80,000 has been confirmed.
Why Did Bitcoin Fall Over the Past Day Despite Surging 22% in 7 Days?
Different timeframes can produce figures that appear contradictory. According to Coinbase price records, Bitcoin was trading at USD 63,082.49 1 week earlier, compared with the current USD 76,846.93. However, its reference price 24 hours earlier was USD 78,683.89.

As a result, the 7-day change is shown as +21.92%, while the change over the past 24 hours is -2.01%. Bitcoin rose sharply over the week but gave back some of those gains during the final day.
When examining short-term price movements, it is better not to confuse these two figures. The 7-day gain shows the magnitude of the recent rebound, while the 24-hour change and the daily high and low show how Bitcoin is currently trading near USD 80,000.
In particular, the increase from USD 63,082.49 to the current price is approximately USD 13,764. Because Bitcoin has already experienced a substantial price movement over a short period, investors should examine not only 'how much further it could rise' but also whether the capital inflows that accompanied the rally are continuing.
How Much Money Flowed into Spot Bitcoin ETFs This Week?
US spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows on every trading day from August 17 through 21. Adding together the figures compiled by Farside, the total net inflow over 5 trading days was approximately USD 1,917,800,000, according to the author's calculation.
The total net inflows by date were as follows.
| Date | US Spot Bitcoin ETF Net Inflows |
|---|---|
| August 17 | USD 297,500,000 |
| August 18 | USD 189,300,000 |
| August 19 | USD 517,200,000 |
| August 20 | USD 606,300,000 |
| August 21 | USD 307,500,000 |
The combined total from Monday through Thursday alone was approximately USD 1,610,300,000, with another USD 307,500,000 added on Friday. In particular, net inflows reached USD 606,300,000 on August 20, the largest daily amount during this period.
An important point when interpreting these figures is not to mistake Bitcoin's price and ETF fund flows for the same indicator. ETF net inflows measure the difference between money entering and leaving US-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs, while Bitcoin's price continues to fluctuate across trading markets worldwide.
Therefore, investors can separately monitor whether net inflows continue on the next trading day, whether their size declines significantly, or whether they reverse into net outflows. Whether ETF fund flows maintain the same direction as Bitcoin approaches USD 80,000 will be a specific point of comparison to watch next week.
Breaking Above USD 80,000 Would Not Set a New All-Time High
Even if Bitcoin rises above USD 80,000, it would not establish a new all-time high. Coinbase lists Bitcoin's all-time high at USD 126,210.50, substantially above USD 80,000.
According to the author's calculation, USD 80,000 is approximately 36.61% below that all-time high. To rise from USD 80,000 to USD 126,210.50, Bitcoin would need an additional price increase of approximately 57.76%.
Compared with the current USD 76,846.93, the increase required to reach the all-time high is approximately 64.24%. Therefore, in the current market, USD 80,000 is more accurately understood as a nearby price level in the recent sharp rebound rather than a threshold for breaking the historical record.
Making this distinction helps prevent exaggeration when news reports announce that Bitcoin has broken above USD 80,000. Moving above USD 80,000 and recovering its previous record price involve a substantial difference in price.
Upcoming Events to Watch: August 26 PCE and Jackson Hole on 27–29
Beyond price movements, there are also upcoming events with scheduled dates worth monitoring. According to the US Bureau of Economic Analysis calendar, the July personal income and outlays report is scheduled for release at 8:30 a.m. US Eastern Time on August 26, and the report includes the PCE price index. Converted to Korean time, the release is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. on August 26.
The Jackson Hole Economic Policy Symposium follows shortly afterward. The 2026 event will take place from August 27 through 29, under the theme 'Financial Innovation: Implications for Payments and Policy.' This year's official theme focuses on financial innovation and its implications for payments and policy.
The Federal Reserve's calendar lists Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's Jackson Hole keynote address for August 28 at 10 a.m. The next regularly scheduled FOMC meeting is set for September 15–16.
It is impossible to determine in advance which direction these events will move Bitcoin's price. Rather than making definitive price predictions, a more direct way to assess their impact is to examine how Bitcoin's price, the US dollar, market interest rates, and spot ETF net inflows actually change before and after the announcements.
What Should Investors Check First at the Current Price?
At the current level, examining three factors in sequence provides a clearer picture than focusing solely on whether Bitcoin breaks above USD 80,000.
First is the approach toward USD 80,000. Based on the current USD 76,846.93, the remaining gap is 4.10%, while the distance narrowed to approximately 1.52% at the high over the past 24 hours. Investors can distinguish between whether Bitcoin approaches USD 80,000 again and how long it maintains that level after approaching it.
Second is spot ETF fund flows. On August 17–21, spot Bitcoin ETFs had recorded net inflows for 5 consecutive trading days, totaling approximately USD 1,917,800,000 according to the author's calculation. Checking whether this trend continues from the next trading day will allow a direct comparison between this week's and next week's fund flows.
Third is the August 26–28 US economic calendar. The July personal income and outlays report and PCE price index are scheduled for 26, the Jackson Hole symposium begins on 27, and the Federal Reserve chair's keynote address is scheduled for 28.
Bitcoin's price can fluctuate significantly even over short periods. The 21.92% increase over the latest 7 days does not imply an equivalent gain over the next 7 days. When making buying or selling decisions, investors should consider their own risk tolerance and investment horizon rather than automatically treating a breakout above a particular price as a signal of future profits.
